3 Imporant Types of Targeting

Competitors – who is the biggest competitor in the adult industry? Some people would argue that targeting your competitors just means that your offer is not good enough, however, don’t disregard where your competitors’ get their new customers. Also, don’t be afraid to go after their success by using their name in your marketing as an alternative or review or anything that will show their customers you are around should things go array.

Re-targeting – make sure those that have visited your website or interacted with any of your marketing content, come back and convert. These sort of campaigns are usually used on Google Adwords or with content marketing.

Buyers – You will need to know this very well. You might think you know because you are used to seeing a certain type of customer visiting your business, but you will have to dig a lot deeper to find where to get customers that not only visit but also buy over and over. You will need to know exactly the type of product or service this customer wants, what time of the week, what similar businesses does this customer use?

Once you have this, you are probably saving 30% of your marketing budget, so we are a step closer to getting ROI for the money you do have to spend on marketing. Let’s start putting this budget to work and grow your business.

Content Marketing

Content marketing is great for re-targeting, so focusing your content to appear on publications where you get conversions from. You can also do re-targeting, making sure your content appears on the same publications where your competitors are appearing.

Good things about content marketing, it’s cheap. No upfront costs, just a set daily budget and a monthly budget. Bad thing? You can get a lot of clicks costing you as low as $0.08p but to get someone to sign up can be expensive, so watch the traffic coming through closely and try to only hold on to publications that convert.

KEY METRIC: Bounce rate and time spent on site. You will high volume of traffic coming through to your site, you want to ensure that this traffic reads your content, to do this you will need to filter publications with high bounce rates. Anything around 50% and lower for bounce rate is good.

Leverage to power of backlinking

The line between PR and backlinking is getting quite blurred, but PR is more expensive, and SEO takes forever, so let’s go straight to where it matters. To find out how your website is doing, first check out your DA (domain authority). We need to get your domain as close to 100 as possible, why? Because you will have an easier time ranking higher on google search for any other content you put out there, as your domain will be valued higher. To get started, have a look at the inbound links, and the DA they hold. You want to have as many high DA links linking to your website as possible. So do a bit of research on the blogs, forums, social websites (crunch base is a good one) that you can get listed in. From a paragraph to a whole article, every link counts (try to mix them up between do follow and no follow) so create an excel sheet for your topic, competitors, your company, your demographic, once you have enough websites to target start contacting them to see if they would list you on their site. You might need to create some content but it’s cheaper than full SEO or PR and a lot more effective long term.

Note: do not drift into black hat backlinks, as they usually show short term effects but fade away quite soon after without any effect to your DA.

KEY METRIC: The number of high PR domains that link to your website. Having 2,000 links that are low ranked is about the same as having 15 high page rank links to your website. Take your time to really plant these good backlinks and track them using DA by moz.

Social Media Mining

Connect with your customers and solve their problems while growing your brand for free and increasing sales, these are the benefits of doing social media right. Social media is like a starting a whole new company. You have your office, which is the social media page where the contact details and your shared content are housed. This is where companies stop, but you can’t have an empty office with no employees. So you need to go out into the social media world and start recruiting employees (employees are your customers). Either by joining similar groups and joining in the conversation, looking at relevant # topics asking your existing customers to spread the word on their social media etc. Very little activity happens on your actual page, most of it should be in posts, photos, links all around social media either directing people to your page or your website. Keep track of your social media activities in Google Analytics social referral section. You will see the content that has resulted in the most clicks. The good thing about this is that its free, but once your engagement starts growing, don’t be afraid to invest $10-$20 to promote content just to wake up the people that have already engaged with your brand.

KEY METRIC: Social referrals on Google Analytics will show you if people are engaging with your content. Social media content expires quickly so you will need to keep feeding new content across all platforms to really see an impact.

Email Marketing

Did you know that public directories with email addresses means its public information you can use for commercial use. If your business does t-shirt designs, you might want to look at all the businesses within the radius you deliver and send a beautiful email newsletter to show businesses your latest t-shirt designs and maybe throw in a promo offer to get the click rates up. You can do email marketing for free on mailchimp and if your subscribers list grows higher than the free rate, the subscription fees are not that high.

KEY METRIC: Click-through rate. You want to create content that is clickable, which will show that people are finding it useful. If it doesn’t work switch it up, segment lists, test sending at different times and days of the week.

So these are just some marketing packages for small business growth. You can grow the packages within themselves, you can test video adverts within your Google Adwords campaigns, you can bring in new social media accounts as your content grows and you can keep switching up things until you find the gold formula.
